Updated 12/6/23: Since I first wrote this article Hazel’s Coffee House has become KB’s Coffee. They are located in the same space, just are under a new name and ownership!
We have now lived in North Carolina for three weeks, and I have finally made my first North Carolina post! Today I visited Hazel’s Coffee House, my first coffee house visit in the state. It was such an exciting feeling to be back out again and exploring the food around me. Let me tell you all about it!
A Cozy Atmostphere
Walking into Hazel’s Coffee House is like walking into the cozy atmosphere of your living room or kitchen at home. There is no shortage of comfortable seats to sit in, and there are plenty of places to sit and eat a pastry while you’re there. I couldn’t help but look around and smile at the amazing amount of coffee decor that line the walls of the shop. I saw everything from catchy signs to hanging mugs, with almost every piece relating back to coffee in some way.
The other thing I noticed right away was the warm greeting I received after walking in the door. The gentleman behind the counter was very friendly. After chatting for a few minutes, he suggested a drink for me (I’ll tell you about that soon!). The interaction and transaction was very easy and smooth. While I was waiting, I enjoyed the sounds of the espresso machine and milk frother. Call me crazy, but those sounds take me back to my times in college as a barista. Those familiar sounds were paired with the familiar music of the 90’s pop/soft rock that played over the radio in the background.
It’s National Coffee Day!
The reason I picked a coffee house for my first-ever North Carolina piece is simple: it’s National Coffee Day! I love coffee, so how could I not celebrate it on its very own day. Upon ordering I made my normal request when visiting a new place….”What do you suggest? Something hot, please.” I’m so glad I did. He suggested a Chocolate Raspberry Latte. I agreed, ordering a chocolate muffin to go along with it. As we all know, you can never have too much chocolate!
My first sip was small, but amazing. The chocolate raspberry flavor was just like biting into a chocolate raspberry candy. I let it sit for a bit before drinking more, and then tried the muffin. Another great decision. The chocolate muffin was warm and moist, the perfect pairing for the chocolate raspberry latte. If chocolate on chocolate on chocolate isn’t your thing, no worries! I glanced over the menu while I was there. I saw everything from tradition coffee to chai to normal tea. Of course I saw iced drinks, as well. All are just more reasons to go back and visit them again!
Give Them a Visit
Being new that I’m new to the area, I had no idea where to visit first. I was just going on a whim. I’m glad, though, that I picked Hazel’s Coffee House for my first stop. Not only is it somewhat close to where I live, but it’s also really good! Next time you’re in Monroe, make sure you stop in and pay them a visit. Did I mention that they have a drive-thru as well? That’s definitely super convenient!
Hazel’s Coffee House is located in Monroe, North Carolina. When you go check them out, make sure you tell them that Meg Flint sent you!
