Meg’s Product Reviews: Entenmann’s Ice Cream Sandwiches

*This review is in no way sponsored, paid for or endorsed by Entenmann’s Donuts and Ice Cream Sandwiches.*

Entenmann’s donuts have always been one of my favorite boxed donuts. I like pretty much all of the varieties that they make, too. So imagine my surprise the other day when I was walking through Walmart and saw Entenmann’s ice cream sandwiches in the freezer section. With a big, bright yellow and red “New!” across the corner of each box, I knew I had to try at least a couple of them. And so I did!

Things to Know About the Entenmann’s Ice Cream Sandwiches

Entenmann's Ice Cream Sandwiches

As I stated above, I first found the Entenmann’s Ice Cream Sandwiches at a Walmart. In particular, I was at a Walmart near Pensacola, Florida. I don’t go to Walmart often, so maybe that’s why I never noticed them before. When I started searching the web for more info about the ice cream sandwiches, I discovered that they were actually released back in the Spring. Another important piece of information that I discovered is that they’re only available at Walmart.

In Pensacola they cost approximately $5 a box. Each box comes with four sandwiches that are individually wrapped in a plastic wrapper. At the Florida Walmart where I was shopping at the time there were four different varieties of Entenmann’s Ice Cream Sandwiches: Chocolate Chip Cookie, Glazed Cookie Donut, Chocolatey Glazed Cookie Donut and Brownie Cookie. I purchased the Glazed Cookie Donut and the Chocolatey Glazed Cookie Donut. The rest of my review will be about those two particular varieties.

What I Liked About the Entenmann’s Ice Cream Sandwiches

There are several things that I like about the Entenmann’s Ice Cream Sandwiches. The first thing I noticed that I like is the size of the sandwiches. I’m a fan of traditional ice cream sandwiches…I don’t eat them often, but they are a fun treat. Like normal ice cream sandwiches, these are the perfect size. They’re not too huge to be over indulgent and they’re not too small to be a tease.

The ice cream in the middle is actually pretty good, too! I feel like with a lot of ice cream sandwiches the ice cream in the center is just an afterthought. But that isn’t the case with the Entenmann’s Ice Cream Sandwiches. Have you ever bitten into an ice cream sandwich and a big chunk of ice cream just separates its self from the rest? When that happens it’s almost as if the ice cream is just ice and not cream. That doesn’t happen with these sandwiches!

The ice cream has good flavor, too. It isn’t too sweet, but it does have small hints of honey and vanilla. And the ratio of ice cream to sandwich is perfect. You can still get the flavor of the ice cream while also tasting the cookies.

Of the two varieties that I tried, the Glazed Cookie Donut was my favorite. Each variety had subtle hints of honey in their tasting notes, but I especially liked the Glazed Cookie Donut sandwich. It had a softer cookie on the outside. The crunch from the white glaze was a perfect match for the soft bite from the ice cream.

The Very Few Things I’m Not Crazy About

There are really only one or two things that I disliked about the Entenmann’s Ice Cream Sandwiches. And while I see them as cons, I still would eat the sandwiches again. Starting with the Chocolatey Glazed Cookie Donut: the top cookie was way too hard. It made it very hard for me to eat it and enjoy it at the same time. Because I have teeth that are sensitive to hot and cold, the hard top cookie made my reaction to the cold a tiny bit worse. Normally I would’ve let it sit out a bit before eating it, but you can’t really do that with an ice cream sandwich in the middle of the summer.

The hard cookie leads into the second thing that I don’t like about the Entenmann’s Ice Cream Sandwiches. When biting into a hard cookie what do you think will happen to the ice cream inside? That’s right…it comes out. If you can’t bite through the cookie and your teeth just press it down, it forces the ice cream inside of the sandwich to come out. I’m already kind of messy with food as it is…I don’t need help being messier!

The last thing I found to be a bit odd…I couldn’t find any info about the sandwiches on the actual Entenmann’s website! I don’t know if I was looking in the wrong place, but I found nothing at all. If they’ve been discontinued already…well that would be pretty sad.

Would I Buy the Ice Cream Sandwiches Again?

At the end of the day, yes, I would buy the Entenmann’s Ice Cream Sandwiches again. Would I pay the $5 for them? Probably not. I would wait until I found a coupon or some other kind of deal before purchasing them again.

The Entenmann’s Ice Cream Sandwiches are fun and a bit whimsical, but I don’t see them becoming something that I would crave. The subtle notes of honey and the crunch of the white glaze were pretty amazing. But next time maybe I’ll try the other two varieties that I didn’t try this time.

Have you tried the Entenmann’s Ice Cream Sandwiches? If so, I’d love to know which one was your favorite. Let me know in the comments below!
